Lights Camera Read has been encouraging kids to read and helping artistic individuals since 2010. The mission of Lights Camera Read, in addition to promoting literacy, is to empower and build visibility for emerging performing artists through creative film project collaborations such as the feature length movie “Thrillumentary” and the online arts education program – the Art Gush Method of Digital Filmmaking – as well as producing the Platinum Pias Community Awards Show.
Why should you donate to Lights Camera Read? Because LCR promotes literacy and focuses on creating meaningful and educational media art, which is relevant now more than ever, being that our challenging new world desperately needs more culture and creativity.
Plus, you’re assisting performing artists from ages 18 to 80 to realize their creative aspirations.
Also, Lights Camera Read is helmed by a knowledgeable artistic director named John “Yianni” Stamas. Yianni is a filmmaker, educator and artist’s advocate. Stamas is grateful for having had the opportunity to either direct or have as clients, actors who have won Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, Tonys and Platinum Pias.
As an entrepreneur, he ran a for-profit theater, web and film company for 12 years (2001-20013). His clients included major institutions such as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, the NYC Department of Education and the New York Public Library.
Yianni currently lectures on media at SUNY Empire State College as well as works as a freelancer.
He was mentored in film at Zoetrope Studios for three years by the late August Coppola (Nicolas Cage’s father) as he observed up close August’s brother, Francis Coppola at work.
Yianni has a B.A. from SUNY, Empire State in Entrepreneurship and Digital Media and is in the process of getting an M.A. at Baruch College in Arts Administration with a specialization in Digital Filmmaking.
There is a synergy between Lights Camera Read and its creative projects including the “Thrillumentary” movie, the Art Gush distance learning website and the Platinum Pias Community Awards show, all working together to promote literacy and help emerging performing artists.
“Thrillumentary” is a feature film web series in development which is made possible by Lights Camera Read. It is the story of a man who must solve a mystery to help his community. It is cast with emerging and seasoned actors providing them with the opportunity to develop their craft and gain visibility.
The Art Gush website dovetails with “Thrillumentary” because the Art Gush Method of Digital Filmmaking and its three-steps-a-day approach are based on the making of “Thrillumentary.” Each week a new educational video and PDF are available online to members. The cost of a monthly membership is kept low because of donations from people like you.
The Platinum Pias is connected to “Thrillumentary” and Art Gush, via the fact that “Thrillumentary” and Art Gush artists are sometimes nominated for Pias.
On an incredibly low budget Lights Camera Read is able to produce the film “Thrillumentary” and the educational site Art Gush as well as the annual Platinum Pias Awards for Artists in existence since 2010.
Performing Artists need organizations like Lights Camera Read to cut their creative teeth. This means we need your help. Remember, donations to Lights Camera Read are tax deductible and can be given through check or securely and conveniently online.
