Founder – Meet John Yianni Stamas

John Yianni Stamas is a filmmaker, educator and artist advocate who is known primarily for either directing or having as clients, actors who have won Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, Tonys and Platinum Pias.

He is the founder of the nonprofit sponsored Lights Camera Read which is a media education organization that has the mission to help introvert “starving artists” become introvert artist entrepreneurs. John teaches primarily online and has students all over the United States as well as the world including Canada, Australia, Mexico and the Netherlands.

Lights Camera Read got its start in 2009 facilitating weekly media workshops for teens at various branches of the New York Public Library including Inwood, Morrisania, Grand Central and Columbus.

Lights Camera Read produces weekly online courses (3 steps a day) for Art Gush, the monthly membership website that teaches the user how to go from being a “starving artist” to an artist entrepreneur by creating a web series to showcase her or his work. Art Gush also focuses on “Web Marketing Strategies for Introvert Artists.”

Other Lights Camera Read projects include producing the weekly mystery thriller web series “Thrillumentary,” as well as the annual community awards show “The Platinum Pias” that since 2010 has been recognizing artists making a difference in their communities and around the world.

Additionally, Lights Camera Read has a blog alliance reaching thousands of artists monthly plus are the founders of the Artist Introvert Revolution or A.I.R.

John also ran a communications business for artists in New York City for 12 years from 2001 to 2013 (overlapping the creation of Lights Camera Read) with clients including the New York Public Library, the NYC Department of Education, the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and recognizable actors from stage and screen.

John got his start as an assistant for three years to August Coppola (Nicolas Cage’s father) at Zoetrope Studios while simultaneously observing August’s brother – filmmaker Francis Coppola – at work.

John has a B.A. in Entrepreneurship, Digital Media and Filmmaking and is currently pursuing a Masters in Arts Administration. He lives in New York City with his wife and daughter.
